TIFF is the format of choice for scanned documents, archival photography, and print-ready files — lossless, large, and precise. Those qualities make it impractical for email attachments, web uploads, or sharing with people who don't have specialized software. Converting to JPG gives you a version that opens anywhere, at a fraction of the size.
High-resolution scans — 600 dpi archival scans of documents or artwork — can produce TIFF files in the hundreds of megabytes. Converting to JPG at quality 85–90 typically reduces those to 2–5% of the original size with no visible quality loss at screen resolution. If the JPG will be used for web display or sharing rather than reprinting, the quality loss from JPEG compression at these settings is genuinely imperceptible.
If you intend to reprint from the converted file, maintain a TIFF archive and generate JPG copies only for delivery.
Some TIFF files contain multiple pages — scanned documents are a common example. The converter extracts the first page as a JPG. If you need all pages converted, split the multi-page TIFF into individual files first, then batch-upload them. JPG is a single-image format and cannot represent multiple pages in one file.
Scanners and archival systems sometimes embed substantial metadata in TIFF files: scanning parameters, copyright notices, creator information, and geolocation for geographic surveys. This data is stripped by default during conversion. Enable the keep metadata option if you need copyright or creator tags preserved in the JPG output.
The converter processes the flattened composite of the TIFF. Photoshop layer data is not preserved in JPG, which is a flat image format.
JPG doesn't support transparency. Transparent areas are filled with white (or a color you configure) during conversion.
Up to 80 MB per file. If your archival TIFFs are larger, you'll need to split or resample them before uploading.
All files are deleted automatically within 30 minutes. Nothing is retained, shared, or indexed.
