TIFF is the lingua franca of print prepress, archival scanning, and professional imaging workflows. It is not a web format — files are large, browsers do not render it natively, and it was never designed for fast transfer. What it offers instead is a lossless, widely-accepted container that retains full color depth, supports embedded ICC profiles for color-managed workflows, and opens without complaint in virtually every professional application from Photoshop to InDesign to GIMP.
Enhydra RPO converts a mixed batch of source formats to TIFF in one pass. RAW camera files get a standard development pass before encoding; the full tonal range is preserved losslessly. EXIF metadata is stripped by default but a keep option is available. File sizes will be large — a 24-megapixel RAW file converted to uncompressed TIFF can exceed 70 MB. Plan your storage accordingly before batching a large archive.

Converting a batch of scanned documents, photographs, or artwork to TIFF from lossy source formats (JPG, HEIC) does not recover quality that was already discarded — the starting resolution and fidelity of the scan is what it is. What the conversion does do is stop further generation loss and produce a file in a format accepted by document management systems, library archives, and long-term storage standards (ISO 12234 references TIFF as a recommended format).

For batches of 50–200 files, output ZIPs can reach several gigabytes. Enhydra RPO streams the ZIP to your browser — individual file size is limited to 80 MB, but the ZIP itself has no fixed cap. Make sure you have disk space before starting a large TIFF batch.
No. TIFF is lossless, but it cannot recover detail that JPG compression already discarded. The conversion stops further quality loss on subsequent saves but does not restore anything lost at the JPG encode stage.
Yes, LZW lossless compression is applied where it reduces file size without any quality impact. The output is lossless regardless — LZW is a reversible algorithm. Very photographic content may not compress much.
RAW formats (CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG, RAF, ORF, RW2) are supported and developed before TIFF encoding. PSD is not currently a supported input format — flatten and export from Photoshop first.
Yes. TIFF supports an alpha channel, and transparency from PNG or WebP sources is carried through to the TIFF output intact.
TIFF files are inherently large because they store full, losslessly-compressed pixel data. A batch of high-resolution photographs will produce a ZIP measured in gigabytes. This is expected behavior, not an error.
