Compress Images — Set Quality or Target a File Size

Two ways to control output size: move a quality slider from 1 to 100 and all files encode at that setting, or enter a target KB and the compressor searches encoder settings per photo until it lands as close as possible from below. Both modes work on batches of up to 200 files at once.

Compression operates within the chosen format — a JPG stays a JPG, a WebP stays a WebP. If you also want to change format, stack the converter tool in the same run and the pipeline still encodes just once.

Quality slider: direct control

The 1–100 range maps to the native quality parameter of each codec. JPG at quality 80 is a reliable starting point for photographs: files shrink to roughly a quarter of their uncompressed size while remaining visually clean. WebP and AVIF reach equivalent visual quality at lower settings because their codecs are more efficient. PNG compression works differently — it is always lossless at the pixel level, and the slider controls how aggressively the data stream is packed.

For web delivery and email, quality 75–85 on JPG is the conventional sweet spot. For marketplace product photos that get zoomed, 85–90 reduces complaints about compression artifacts.

Target KB: hit a file-size ceiling

Set a target like 150 KB and the tool runs a binary search over the quality range for each photo individually, finding the highest quality setting that fits under the ceiling. Because the same quality setting produces different file sizes for different images — a photo of a busy street compresses less efficiently than a white-background product shot — per-photo searching is more accurate than applying one quality value to the whole batch.

Common uses: email attachments with server limits, marketplace uploads with strict image size rules, and CMS platforms that reject files over a fixed ceiling.

Will PNG compression alter my pixels?

No. PNG compression is lossless at the pixel level. The slider only affects how hard the data stream is packed — pixels remain identical regardless of the setting.
